The Future of Modern Policing – DCI Gene Hunt – Hardback

by admin on Apr.13, 2009, under Patrol Store

Whatever you think of Gene Hunt’s method of policing he’s certainly no fool. With his take no crap, don’t give a damn about anything attitude he gets the job done.
Following on from his successful 1973 edition of The Rules of Modern Policing this book will give you the ins and outs of what to expect with future policing in the eighties.

Everything was so much simpler in the seventies. As seen in his documentary Life on Mars, when a crime was being committed you tracked a nearby blagger and “persuaded” him to confess and sent him off for a good long stretch.

Sadly, the eighties bring a completely different kettle of fish. It’s a whole new breed of shoulder-pad-sporting, bouffant haired, foundation-caked, coke snorting, race-rioting career criminals.

As portrayed in Ashes to Ashes, Gene Hunt is on hand to help his fellow officers. This book is packed full of advice for officers of all ranks and is an invaluable tool which discusses all the new issues facing the Met. Riots, forensics, political correctness (what the!?), IT, drugs and advanced interrogation techniques that you just might be able to persuade the judge that they’re legal are all discussed here.

With practical exercises at the end of each chapter, including a very helpful “Spot the Drug Addict” picture quiz, it means if you really don’t know your arse from your elbow you can learn to blag it at least.

The Gene Genie may not be the most modern of cops in the Met but if you want to be one of the top dogs then you should really buy this book.

Things you will learn from this guide are that “good” evidence puts criminals in the dock but “bad” evidence puts you there, you really shouldn’t obtain evidence by bribing people (apparently), signed confessions should be given voluntary (who came up with this idea?) and much more.

Although this book has not been endorsed by the NPIA it really should be as its considered essential reading for those wishing to undertake their OSPRE or Investigator exams.
