Blackstone’s Preparing For Police Duty

by Lianeh on May.04, 2009, under Patrol Store

Whilst the title Blackstone’s Preparing For Police Duty suggests it is targeted primarily for people who are interested in joining the police or are waiting for parts of their application to be processed, it should also be read by so many more people than this.

Anyone who is thinking of joining would find it very useful in its description of the police set-up and how the police services are organised. Also anyone preparing for interviews would find some excellent advice about what it really takes to become a police officer.

Serving as an excellent primer in the law and procedure for the potential officer it has a good and very basic overview of criminal offences and points to prove.

It’s written in an easy to read style and has very helpful examples and points to consider throughout. The layout of Blackstone’s Preparing for Police Duty is very clear and the chapters are laid out logically. The book also reinforces knowledge by referring back to points covered earlier on in the book and includes suggestions for further reading and web-links.

The selling point of Blackstone’s Preparing for Police Duty for many of it’s readers is the chapter containing real-life experiences from officers at all ranks as it gives an honest view from the people you may go on to work with. This makes it a great help for people who don’t come from a police background and their only imagination of the police service is from the media’s representation.

When you start your training as a student officer you will also have the basic knowledge of areas that are covered in this book, for example the history of policing.

Blackstone’s Preparing for Police Duty is clear, concise and easy to read. If you are serious about applying it also gives you advice of what to expect during the daunting application process.
